A nocturnal adventure on the water: that is what our Sailing Under the Stars tours are all about. From Zoutkamp, Lauwersoog, or Harlingen, we sail the Willem Jacob onto the dark Lauwersmeer, right into the official Dark Sky Park, or onto the Wadden Sea, letting ourselves be guided by the current and wind. Step aboard the Willem Jacob for an enchanting evening on the water. During this Sailing Under the Stars tour, we explore the Lauwersmeer, one of the few true Dark Sky areas in the Netherlands. In the darkness of the night, we sail out from Zoutkamp, far away from city lights and crowds.
Or we sail from Lauwersoog or Harlingen onto the Wadden Sea, watch the sun disappear on the horizon, and let ourselves drift on the waves and the tide.
You are welcome to help with sailing if you wish, and along the way, Koen van den Driesche from Waddensky or Adri Warmerhoven, director of the Planetarium in Franeker, will tell you all about stars, planets, and other celestial phenomena. Learn how to recognize constellations, hear stories from mythology, and experience how overwhelming the night sky can be.
If we get cold, we can warm ourselves in the cozy ship's hold with coffee and tea. Wear warm clothing – it can be chilly on the water – but the adventure and the view are priceless. Given the late hour, these tours are less suitable for small children.
During the winter period, we take a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 30 guests per trip, and at night we all wear life jackets (available on board) – safety assured, adventure guaranteed.
