Dry out trips

Flat-bottomed ships such as the Willem Jacob and the Minerva are made to run aground. When running aground, the ship sails above a sandbank at high tide. Because the water level drops, the ship ends up on the sandy bottom of the Wadden Sea. You can then disembark and walk across the seabed.

Dry out

Flat-bottomed ships such as the Willem Jacob and the Minerva are made to run aground. When running aground, the ship sails above a sandbank at high tide. Because the water level drops, the ship ends up on the sandy bottom of the Wadden Sea. You can then disembark and walk across the seabed.

During the following trips, we will be able to run aground under normal circumstances. During many crossings, we run aground at night. In the evening, we leave the harbour and after a few hours the skipper moors the ship to run aground. A special experience to spend the night in the middle of the Wadden Sea.

Continue sailing after running aground

Make sure you are back on board when the tide comes in. The tide will release the ship and we will sail on. After a few hours we will continue our sailing trip. How long it takes to dry out depends on where we are on the sandbank.
